Penelope Pear
Welcome to my page!
I have been getting ready to help the birds to survive through the cold winter months.
I have some friends, Chris and Sophie, who helped me to make some bird cake. I found the recipe on the RSPB website:
Birds need high energy foods to keep warm in the worst of the winter months.
This is what we did:

1. With the help of an adult, we melted 200g of lard (you can also use suet).
2. We mixed in 400g of a mixture of seeds, nuts, dried fruit, oatmeal, grated cheese and cake crumbs.
3. We let it set and put it into containers. We used yoghurt pots.

4. We hung them on the washing line. You could put the bird cake straight onto a bird table; we didn’t because we have a cat!
5. We sat and watched to see which birds ate our bird cake.
We are going to photograph the birds which eat our cake and show them to you soon. We are very excited to see who will visit.
You don’t have to make bird cake, you can use other foods you have in your house. Just double check that they are okay:

There are lots of other ways you can help birds in your garden other than feeding them. Watch the video on the RSPB website:
